Raymond Pellegrino Obituary

Raymond W. Pellegrino, 92, of Coatesville passed away on April 16, 2024.  Born in Coatesville, PA, son of Anthony Pellegrino and Elizabeth Zappacosta Pellegrino.  Raymond (Ray) was a graduate of Scott High School class of 1949. During his senior year in high school, he also became an apprentice barber in his father’s business. After graduation from high school, he entered the US Navy for four years to serve during the Korean War. In the Navy he served on the USS Newport News. After serving in the Navy, he returned to work in his father’s business. The business was renamed “Tony and Son Barbershop”. In later years the business was again renamed “Pellegrino’s Barbershop”.

In 1960, he married the love of his life, Jeannette Mento and have been married for over 63 years.

Ray, at an early age, always enjoyed fishing and working with his hands. He learned the art of fly tying which combined both skills. On a sunny day you could always catch Ray fishing and even some cloudy days too!  He also enjoyed boating, swimming, diving, tennis, and gardening.  His garden was a bountiful feast for the family and the envy of many.  He had an entrepreneurial mind, and many hours of his spare time were spent at a work bench creating and inventing household products, in which he obtained a US Patent on one of his inventions.

After retirement he decided to conquer the kitchen and compete with his wife on a few recipes, which was a challenge he enjoyed for years. The highlight of the day was when the entire family enjoyed meals together. He loved cooking breakfast for his family and is remembered by his grandchildren for making the best waffles around.

Ray was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. As a child he was an alter server.  As an adult, he was an active member of the Holy Name Society, assisted in the church kitchen, a choir member, and also a member of the holiday decorating committee.

Ray was preceded in death by both his mother and father, and an infant brother, Anthony, who preceded Ray’s birth. He is survived by his loving wife Jeannette and daughters Linda Pellegrino (Steve Watt) and Patricia McAnany (Tony), grandchildren Alyssa McAnany, Dominic McAnany, Gregory Paulukinas, and Jeffrey Paulukinas.
